The TQ401, EA401, and IQS450 form a proximity measurement system from Meggitt's vibro-meter® product line. This system enables contactless measurement of the relative displacement of moving machine elements and is particularly suitable for monitoring the relative vibration and axial position of rotating machine shafts in steam, gas, and hydraulic turbines, as well as alternators, turbocompressors, and pumps.
The system is built around the TQ401 non-contact sensor and the IQS450 signal conditioner, which together form a calibrated proximity measurement system with interchangeable components. The system provides a voltage or current output proportional to the distance between the transducer tip and a metallic target such as a machine shaft. The active sensing element is a wire coil moulded inside a Torlon® (polyamide-imide) tip, while the transducer body is made of stainless steel and is available with either metric or imperial threads.
The IQS450 signal conditioner contains a high-frequency modulator/demodulator that supplies a driving signal to the transducer and generates the electromagnetic field required for gap measurement. The conditioner circuitry uses high-quality electronic components mounted in an aluminium extrusion. TQ4xx-based proximity measurement systems can be powered by VM600Mk2/VM600 machinery monitoring modules, VibroSmart® modules, or other suitable power supplies, providing a flexible solution for machinery condition monitoring applications.
